What is Raised Access Flooring?
A Raised Access Computer Floor is an elevated structural flooring system commonly used if computer rooms, data centers, command centers, and other areas requiring complex wiring or airflow plenum distribution. The flooring system consists of liftable floor tiles and a grid of adjustable height pedestals and rigid support bars in which the floor tiles rest.

Access floor tiles are generally 600mm x 600mm to 600mm x 900mm in dimensions. Their construction material can vary, though all tiles are steel on the outside with a laminate surface. The tiles can have a hollow core, wood core, or steel core. The core adds strength to support higher rolling loads. All raised floor tiles have floor load rating of at least 1250 pounds per square foot.

Plenum and Air Distribution
While some floors are just used for cable wiring, most floors are designed to act as an airflow plenum for distribution of heating and cooling air. Floor plenum heights vary from 300mm(12") up to 2400mm. Some tiles contain vents or perforations, often adjustable, for air distribution. The flexibility of raised access floors is such that they can be installed in virtually any interior space in which they are needed.
